Popular Torch Coral Varieties
Torch corals can vary dramatically in tentacle color, tip color and overall brightness under reef lighting.
Holy Grail torch corals are highly sought after for their vivid yellow and bright green coloration, combined with contrasting bright blue tips.
24K Gold torch corals are prized for strong metallic gold coloration and can become striking centerpiece corals as colonies grow.
Rainbow torch corals combine multiple colors within the same coral and can display shades of green, yellow, purple, blue and pink depending on the individual specimen and aquarium lighting.

Torch Coral Care
Torch corals generally do best with moderate lighting and moderate, indirect water flow. The goal is enough flow to keep the tentacles gently moving without continuously pushing them hard in one direction. Strong direct flow can prevent full expansion and may damage the coral's fleshy tissue.
Torch corals are photosynthetic and obtain much of their energy from light, so direct feeding is not required. They may capture small suspended foods, but stable aquarium conditions are generally more important than frequent target feeding.
As LPS corals with a calcium carbonate skeleton, torch corals rely on stable alkalinity, calcium, salinity and temperature for long-term growth. Avoid sudden changes in lighting, flow or water chemistry when introducing a new torch coral to your aquarium.
Torch Coral Placement and Aggression
Torch corals need adequate space from neighboring corals. Their long tentacles can extend well beyond the skeleton, and they are capable of stinging nearby corals.
For this reason, avoid placing a torch where its tentacles can regularly contact unrelated LPS or SPS corals. A location with moderate light, indirect flow and enough open space for full extension is usually a good starting point.
Torch corals can grow into substantial multi-head colonies over time, so leaving extra room when first placing a small frag can prevent crowding later.
Buying Torch Corals Online
When choosing a torch coral, consider its coloration, number of heads and overall size as well as the conditions in your reef aquarium. Smaller single-head torches can grow into larger colonies over time, while multi-head colonies provide a more immediate visual impact.
