About Acanthophyllia Corals
Acanthophyllia are large, fleshy LPS corals prized for their size, intense coloration, and unique patterns. Often called Acantho corals or meat corals, they are typically kept as individual showpiece corals on the sand bed. Colors can include red, orange, green, blue, purple, and multicolor rainbow combinations.
Acanthophyllia Coral Care
Acanthophyllia generally prefer low to moderate lighting and gentle water flow. Excessive flow can prevent the coral from fully expanding or damage its fleshy tissue. Allow plenty of space around the coral and avoid placing it where its tissue can rub against rockwork. Acanthophyllia are mostly non-aggressive towards corals placed near to them on the sand bed. Problems only arise if the neighboring coral overlap each other by an inch or more.
Acanthophyllia are photosynthetic but can also benefit from occasional feeding. Small portions of appropriate meaty foods or coral pellets can be offered when the coral displays a feeding response.
Buying Acanthophyllia Corals
